Dear Potential Mentor:

Thank you so much for your interest in being a Peer Buddy!

As a Peer Buddy, you will have the opportunity to change the life of another person in a meaningful, lasting way.  By enrolling as a Peer Buddy, you will teach individuals with social delays how to be a better friend by modeling and teaching “good buddy behaviors.”  These behaviors include teaching your buddies how to maintain eye contact, have a conversation, ask and answer questions, compromise, be a “good sport”, and take other people’s perspectives.

We are looking for buddies who have a genuine desire to teach others.  Applicants should be social, friendly, outgoing, and patient.  We hope this is you!  As a Peer Buddy, you will be taught how to be a buddy by a passionate, experienced professional who will inspire you and teach you all the skills you’ll need.  We’ll make your experience as fun as possible, and remember that you’ll be participating in all our activities!  From playing games at the beach to going on scavenger hunts at the park to playing team sports - you’ll be amazed by how much fun you’re having while learning and teaching!

Please note that by enrolling as a Peer Buddy, you are making a commitment to seeing them consistently throughout each “package”.  Given the limited amount of time your buddy gets to spend with you, it’s really important that you make your best effort to attend every single session.  If you find that you’re enjoying your time as a Peer Buddy, you certainly have the option of re-enrolling as a Buddy for future sessions.  We’d love to have you back!

Does all of this sound like a good match for you?  If so, please take a moment to fill out our application so we can learn more about you.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

We look forward to working with you soon!

Kind Regards,

Elika Shahrestani, MS, BCBA
